About the Therapist

Joёlle Steyt is a Chartered Physiotherapist and has specialised in veterinary physiotherapy for the last 12 years.

During this time she has worked closely with veterinary practitioners such as vets, master saddlers, farriers, dentists and trainers. She is well respected for her knowledge and skills across Yorkshire.

Joёlle has completed extensive post graduate training related to the equine field and frequently attends national & international conferences to ensure regular updates on her knowledge and skills.

She qualified with a Masters in Science Degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy awarded by the Royal Veterinary College of London and is a member of ACPAT.

Joёlle provides treatments for a variety of musculoskeletal problems in horses. She offers treatments in soft tissue manipulation, joint mobilisation, reflex inhibition technique, stretching exercises, guidance on rehabilitation programs as well as conventional physiotherapy such as electrotherapy, ultrasound, TENS and laser.

Joelle performing Physiotherapy Joёlle runs her own practice in Veterinary Physiotherapy in the North of England. Working alongside veterinary surgeons, saddlers, farriers, dentist and trainers, she organises clinics and home visits across Yorkshire and Europe.

Joёlle is starting further professional development in October 2008. She has been admitted on the course of Master Saddle Fitting Consultancy, organised by the MSFC in conjunction with the Association of Masters Saddlers. She hopes to qualify in 2009. She has already followed a basic course on saddle fitting and works closely together with Master Saddlers in the UK, providing advice on the good fit of your saddle and saddle related issues.

Joёlle is registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) as well as ACPAT. She has educational links with the Royal Veterinary College (University of London) and participates in continuing professional development. Joёlle adheres to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy's Regulations and Standards of Practice.

Joёlle Steyt's brief history of work experience:

Joёlle performing Physiotherapy The first two years after qualifying as a physiotherapist in 1994, Joёlle worked in a rehabilitation centre for people with neurologic and orthopaedic conditions. Gradually she build up her own private practice in both human and animal physiotherapy in Belgium. In 1995 Joёlle obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Animal Physiotherapy awarded by CREA-ISCAM in Brussels. This was one of the first courses organised in Belgium on animal physiotherapy. Whilst treating mainly race horses and trotters in Belgium, Joёlle travelled back and forth to the UK to attend more clinical training with Sherry Scott and John Warwick from the N.A.A.T (National Association of Animal Therapists) during '95-'97. In '99 she continued further professional development by studying "Functional Equine Biomechanics". A course organised in France by J.P. Pailloux, Equine Physiotherapist of the French Equestrian Olympic Team and co-author of the book "Physical Therapy and Massage for the horse" (J.M. Denoix MRCVS). When becoming a member of ACPAT in 2002 she did additional training with several reputable members of the association such as Amanda Sutton and Victoria Spalding. Joёlle relocated permanently to the UK in 2002, working full time for Victoria Spalding, veterinary physiotherapist and official physiotherapist for the British Equestrian Team.

Statue of 'Eclipse' She enrolled on the MSC in veterinary Physiotherapy in 2004 and set up her own practice during that same year. Joёlle continues professional development with a particular interest to saddle fitting. She has attended a course on saddle fitting organised by Balance Saddles and is looking forward to start a course in Master Saddle Fitting in October 2008, organised in association with the association of master saddlers. Joёlle is currently organising clinics in Europe as well as in Yorkshire.
